This bench can be transformed into a picnic table in no time at all!

With this popular model, you can quickly create extra seating without sacrificing all your space for a large picnic table. For a cosy drink with friends or a BBQ with family, you can unfold your garden bench into a picnic table at any moment of the day. Model S is suitable for 2 to 4 people and is made from planed Douglas wood beams.

Materials and finish of the Bench and Table 2 in 1

The tabletop is screwed from underneath (see photos). This means there are no visible screw holes in the tabletop. As a result, the tabletop will wear less, as rainwater cannot remain in the holes, allowing your picnic table to last longer. Of course, this also looks much more attractive. There is a 2 mm gap between the beams in the tabletop to allow for the natural movement of the wood. The dowel finish is of excellent quality.

For technical reasons, the seating surfaces of the Bench and Table 2 in 1 are screwed. Both the tabletop and the seats have a thickness of 4.5 cm.

• Wood type: Douglas wood
• Wood processing: planed and sanded
• Wood thickness: 4.5 cm thick x 9.5 cm wide
• Assembly: hot-dip galvanised hardware

In terms of hardness, Douglas wood sits between spruce wood and hardwood and is therefore perfectly suited to the Dutch climate. When left untreated, Douglas wood has a lifespan of 10 to 15 years. For additional protection, you may treat the wood with Hermadix Douglas oil. The bench can remain outdoors during the winter.

Please note: This model with a plank-style tabletop must be unfolded by two people, as it is not possible to grip the beam with your hand as you can with the traditional tabletop of the other model. The Bench and Table 2 in 1 for 2 to 4 people is also available with a traditional tabletop made from beams measuring 4.5 cm by 9.5 cm, or as a model with a solid tabletop made from wide planks. Yes, nature is important to us as well. That’s why we purchase our wood from suppliers certified with the PEFC label — an international certification for wood and paper products. PEFC stands for Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification, supported by governments, businesses, and regional organisations. Wood with the PEFC label comes from sustainably and responsibly managed forests.

Movement of the wood

Due to the natural movement of the wood, small and sometimes longer fine hairline cracks may appear. This is a normal occurrence and does not affect the strength or stability of the picnic table. These cracks may become visible during warm and dry weather, and can partially disappear again once wetter, rainy conditions return. It is not possible to predict how this will develop in Douglas wood. If you are unsure whether the hairline cracks in your wood are normal, please feel free to send us a photo so we can assess it for you.
